Silicon Valley families are expert at juggling the often-competing demands of work and family. The march of progress appears to constantly speed up our daily lives. Professor Chuck Darrah proposes that our Silicon Valley lives are not really faster, but rather that "busyness" has increased. Life is getting more crowded with activities, people and things, and this crowding is profoundly transforming everyday life in our families. "Busyness," and the adaptive strategies it provokes, is transforming the very creation of families and their members over time.
CHUCK DARRAH, Ph.D., is co-founder of the Silicon Valley Cultures Project at San Jose State University.
Talk is free with paid gallery admission. Co-presented by The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UC Santa Cruz Extension.
