Hike through the different habitats of north San Pablo Bay, observe plankton and other creatures using microscopes, and taste the salty pickleweed in the salt marsh! Teachers, youth group leaders, adult volunteers, and students are invited to actively explore the diverse habitats and wildlife of this north bay refuge during a FREE field trip program, "In The Marsh On Mare Island." In these hands-on, educator-led field trips, students participate in a variety of activities designed to teach ecological concepts that focus on endangered species, migratory birds, and habitat preservation. All programs have been correlated to the appropriate State of California Education Standards. Educators and Youth Leaders conduct their own field trips after attending a Field Trip Orientation Workshop. These sessions provide the information you need to design and conduct your own field trip. In addition, adult volunteers must be recruited to lead the activities at the different learning stations and to chaperone the rotating groups of students. Although we provide easy to follow scripts for each station, both leaders and chaperones are strongly encouraged to attend a Field Trip Orientation Workshop.
