The City of San Jose Environmental Services Department Youth Watershed Education Team (YWET) was formed in 1997 to coordinate the Environmental Services Department's water-related messages and deliver them to the youth living in the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant service area. YWET strives to promote the importance of our watershed by educating today's youth to serve as future watershed stewards.
YWET's mission is to invest in the future now through planning and delivering the Environmental Services Department's water education initiatives that promote understanding and encourage youth to adopt sustainable environmental habits.
YWET focuses on five key messages:
1. We need to protect our watershed
2. The San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant is important
3. Water conservation is important to the South Bay.
4. Recycled water is an important resource and part of our water supply future.
5. School sites can be models of environmental sustainability.
We implement our message through teacher training workshops, educational materials for teachers and students, in-class presentations, and partnerships with other Environmental Education organizations.
