The Santa Clara County Biotechnology Partnership's mission is to improve education for high school science students by providing access to exciting hands-on biotechnology curriculum, and supporting laboratory equipment. To accomplish this mission SCCBEP provides three major services:

1. Curriculum development

2. Professional development and training for teachers

3. Mobile kits of biotechnology equipment and materials allowing students to do laboratory investigations in: DNA extraction and spooling; DNA fingerprinting simulations; bacterial transformation; expression and purification of green fluorescent protein; polymerase chain reaction (PCR); sequencing of mitochondial DNA; Natural Products Drug Discovery; and individualized student projects.

The partnership has developed its own curriculum and entered into a license agreement with Bio-Rad for the development of a biotechnology kit. A diabetes/sugar chemistry curriculum is in the works with LifeScan, Inc. In addition, SCCBEP connects local scientists with classroom teachers, provides teachers with curriculum and training at summer workshops, works with IISME to connect teachers with industry internships, facilitates donations from industry and academia and has organized community-wide public education events.
