Our school district, working in partnership with Dow Chemical, launched a project to ensure all elementary students had a firm science foundation and access to quality hand-on science material. This hands-on science program was developed by the National Science Resource Center, which was established by the National Academy of Sciences and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Today, the district runs an impressive Science Resource Center serving over 400 elementary classrooms and 10,000 students. The center maintains multiple copies of 20 nationally-recognized science kits, three different kits for every grade, K-5. Kits are delivered from the center to the classrooms throughout the school year. Once a kit has been taught, it is returned to the Science Resource Center where all materials are replenished before the kit is sent to another classroom.
