CRS works in partnership with teachers to improve elementary science education. Our vision is a community of educators working together to excite all children about learning through the scientific exploration of the world around them. Community Resources for Science contributes to this vision by weaving connections between the needs of individual teachers and the existing resources in our community, while acting as a catalyst to improve the available resources.
We've worked with over 750 Bay Area teachers to develop the tools that elementary school science teachers really need in four main program areas. Connection Services responds to teacher's specific requests and identifies opportunities that meet their unique needs, sets up field trips or in-class programs, and provides material order forms or grant application forms to save teacher's time. Teacher Support Laboratory workshops helps whole faculties work together to plan and teach hands-on science units that will engage students in reading, math, and other curriculum areas. Resource Development helps the local education community refine and develop science resources that meet the needs of elementary teachers and students, through research, data analysis, consulting and training. Community in the Classroom places scientist volunteers in elementary school classrooms to present hands-on activities that inspire kids and help teachers improve their science curriculum.
