| The New Shorebird Park Nature Center is an environmentally friendly "Green" straw bale building. The Office and visitors center is powered by the sun and is made from recycled materials. It hosts a 50 gallon Bay tank which displays creatures that live in the San Francisco Bay. There are green building displays as well as a touch table, and other wildlife exhibits. The Center provides information to visitors concerning all areas of recreation and marine conservation and education.The Classroom is home to a 100 gallon salt water aquarium and exhibits relating to the class weare teaching at the time. Mid-week, the Center offers school group programs on Birds, Fish , Marina Mammals and Bay Scientist presentations, Outside programs on the intertidal zone, and research boat trips. Teacher workshops, and Summer Marine Biology Classes. We are also the office for the Adventure Playground, and we do Special events like the Berkeley Bay Festival in April and the Shoreline cleanups year round. |
