Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary is one of NOAA'S 13 National Marine Sanctuaries, and one of four in California. The Sanctuary protects an underwater island, known as Cordell Bank, the seafloor, and its productive surrounding waters. The Sanctuary is teeming with life as a destination feeding ground for Blue and Humpback Whales, far ranging seabirds such as Laysan and Black-footed Albatross, and local groundfish populations abound on this invertebrate encrusted habitat.

The Sanctuary works to protect this offshore underwater jewel through research, monitoring, education, and regulations.
