The California Institute for Biodiversity (CIB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation committed to using technology to promote understanding of the biological heritage of California. Carol Baird, Ph.D., is the executive director of CIB. The institute grew from her discussions with teachers, professors, and professional biologists in California.

Recognized throughout the state for its scientific accuracy and innovative use of technology, CIB is the creator of Cal Alive!: Exploring Biodiversity. The first in a series, this title has connected CIB with hundreds of California educators. The institute provides both science-based multimedia for students and one and two-day professional development for teachers.
