The Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association is one of four associations across the nation established to support the education, conservation and research programs of the National Marine Sanctuaries. Located just outside of the San Francisco Bay area, the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary encompasses 948 square nautical miles of water off the California coastline from Bodega Head in Sonoma County to Rocky Point in Marin County. We are dedicated to protecting Sanctuary wildlife and habitats through the development of a diverse community of informed and active ocean Sanctuary stewards.
The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary supports the largest breeding colony of seabirds in the continental United States, one of the largest concentrations of feeding blue whales, and is home to twenty percent of California's breeding harbor seals. The Association works hand-in-hand with the Sanctuary to enlist volunteers to monitor and protect fragile marine habitats, develop and facilitate educational programs, and manage the visitor center on Chrissy Field.
